In 2007, Daylight Saving Time is changing for the U.S. and Canada. As part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, Daylight Saving Time (DST) has been extended by four weeks. DST dates will start three weeks earlier on the second Sunday in March (11th) and will end one week later on the first Sunday in November (4th).

Each computer is run by a computer Operating Systems (OS), like Windows and Mac OS, and can be set to automatically change the computer's clock to conform to DST. Because many of the computers were purchased before this policy was enacted, your computer will make the automatic adjustment on the old DST dates. To adjust for this, you will need to update your computer by running the DST patches as instructed below.

Both Microsoft and Apple have provided patches to change these dates on their CURRENT operating systems: Microsoft Windows XP and Apple Mac OS 10.4. To ensure that your OS receives these patches, make sure that you follow the instructions for your installed operating system below:

Finally, if you are using the calendar feature within Microsoft Exchange (Outlook), there is an additional patch required to adjust for the new DST dates. These instructions are also included below.

We have also included Quick Reference Guides which provide step-by-step instructions on how to update your computer. These can be viewed/printed by clicking on the appropriate link below:

Microsoft Daylight Saving Time Update Guide Companion for LAUSD

(includes instructions for updating Windows XP and Microsoft Exchange (Outlook))

http://techsupport.lausd.net/acrobat/Microsoft_DST_Update_Guide_Companion_for_LAUSD.pdf

Installing Daylight Savings Update 1.0 on OS X 10.3.9 and 10.4.8

http://techsupport.lausd.net/acrobat/Installing_Daylight_Savings_Update_1.0_on_OSX_10.3.9_and_10.4.8.pdf

What Needs to be Done and When?

By March 10th, please follow the below instructions for your respective Operating System.

Microsoft Windows OS

Customers using Windows XP and Outlook should install the DST updates available from Microsoft.
